The Problem
Modern design education heavily indexes on digital product design. When physical print production is taught, it is often abstracted away or relegated to generic advice like "use CMYK and add bleed." This abstraction fails when a designer sends a 300% TAC file to an uncoated web press, resulting in thousands of dollars of ruined material.
Our Methodology
We do not write "how-to" tutorials. We document mechanical constraints. Our information is sourced directly from:
- ISO Technical Committee 130 (Graphic technology)
- Heidelberg and Komori operator manuals
- FOGRA and Idealliance characterization datasets
- Decades of combined pressroom floor experience
Editorial Independence
The Institute of Printing accepts no sponsorships or kickbacks from equipment manufacturers or paper mills. When we state that a specific press has a known registration issue on heavy board, we do so based on field data.
